We are You Animals

You Animals are (from left to right) Ryan, Liza, Mark, Matt, Martin and Stuart.

Comprising of six members of indeterminate relationship (Brothers? Sisters? Lovers?), You Animals mash guitars into keyboards to make scrappy pop anthems that manage to at first lift you up and then pull you back down with their heartfelt honesty.

This 12 legged beast released their 1st single, the 7” only Halfway to Heartbreak on the Fear and Records label in July 2009. Dealing with the issue of finally realising that it was yourself who fucked up that relationship long before she (or he?) had the chance, the record sold out within it’s first week of release and prompted the second single Shotgun Valentine.

Hailing from every corner of the country but finally settling on rural Derbyshire as their collective base, the 5 guys and 1 girl have been holed up in their deceivingly titled rehearsal room The Bakery crafting their debut album. Crimes, Creeps & Thrills was finally completed in August 2010 and comprises of 12 tracks based around the universal themes of love and loss, life and death and getting fucked up.

You Animals are now set to break out into the public gaze proper following support tours with some of Britain’s biggest acts, and their own headline tours of some of Britain’s smallest venues. Some people say they mirror early Idlewild, Ash or The Get Up Kids. You Animals say they sound like You Animals.

You Animals are one of those gems that make festivals like The Great Escape essential for discovering new music. Mixing snazzy new wave punk melodies with intelligently crafted pop hooks, they’ve come a long way in such a short space of time – Drowned in Sound

Up-beat, high-tempo Indie / Powerpop 6-piece You Animals are a yelping, riffing, distorted and chaotic little band. Tracks like ‘Theme From You Animals’ and ‘Halfway To Heartbreak’ display Indie-Pop pop-hook sensibility mixed with Dananananaykroyd, The Mae Shi, and Johnny Foreigner style beautiful chaos – The Great Escape Festival 2009 website.

You Animals come on stage with a harsh Black Francis squeal and a whole lot of power, their sense of dynamics and energy both present in abundance - egigs.co.uk
